About SIP route in MFs

I have SIPs in a couple of MFs. I cannot manage to put in more than Rs. 1000/- in some of the creditable MFs (as per Value Research ratings). After 12 months when I compare I find that the avg return from these 6-7b schemes is just about 5%-6%.

I agree that it is better to check the peformance after 2-3 years, but still is it advisable to use the SIP route for 1000/- a month and in 6-7 schemes (as I have now) or go via some other method.
