Best broker

Hi,
I am NRI from canada, and want to invest indian stock market. I am new in this field, having only skin dip knowledge due to out of touch for long time. I used to invest when i was in india but time and system has changed lot. Mutual fund was not popular, on line facilitis was not existing and many other.
I am thinking to start from low volume and go up step by step. some %age in mutual fund, some IPO and some amount in existing company.
Advice will be appreciated.
