Stock Broking companies

Judging by how the other listed share broking companies have fared, Edelweiss should do quite well for itself. Just look at the valuations received by IndiaInfoline, ShareKhan, Karvy, Angel, Motilal Oswal etc.

As of Friday, Edelweiss has been subscribed by over 110 times with great support from financial institutions. The grey market is already quoting it at Rs. 1600 which is nearly double the price of listing at Rs. 825 (upper). Religare is opening tomorrow. Analysts are saying it will open around Rs. 540-560 levels and profit booking at around Rs. 650 against the issue upper price of Rs. 185, that is, at tripple the amount.

Edelweiss retail participation is at 10 times. Which means if you apply for 100 shares at Rs. 825 (i.e. write a cheque for Rs. 82500 and the money held for about 21 days) you may get 10 shares. Not my idea of fun. Although if it lists at Rs. 1600 you stand to make Rs. 8000 - i.e. 10% return in 21 days - not bad at all.
